Local government employers​

Local government employers promotes the interests of Finland's municipalities and joint municipal authorities on the labour market.

Finland has 320 municipalities and 136 joint municipal authorities. These local authorities employ about 441 000 employees, a fifth of Finland's employed labour force. 

 
Local and joint authorities vary as to their importance as employers. Half of them employ 250 persons at the most.

    vocational institutions, polytechnics,
  • day care centres, youth affairs centres
  • libraries, museums,
  • homes for the elderly,

Local government employers (KT) is an interest organisation for local government employers representing all Finnish local and joint authorities.  It negotiates and concludes collective agreements in the local government sector. KT has a key role in improving performance and the quality of working life.
